The Hobbit

The hobbit was first written by J.R.R Tolkien in 1932 and this book is about 90 years old and remains a great book even today! I have heard about this title mostly from the movies and so I decided to read it. 3 movies of “the hobbit” have been made and are based on this one book and so I think you will enjoy the book as it packs quite a punch!
The Hobbit is a fiction-based book with numerous mythical creatures like dwarfs, wizards, goblins, big wolves, and obviously a hobbit. A Hobbit is a fat creature that wears bright-colored clothes, has thick leathery soles that act like shoes, and is about half our height. The story begins in a very comical manner. It revolves around a small hobbit named Bilbo Baggins who goes on an adventure with 13 dwarves and a wizard. The curtains open on Bilbo enjoying a peaceful day when suddenly 13 dwarves and a wizard barge into Bilbo's nice hobbit hole and make themselves at home. After creating an initial ruckus and confusion, the dwarves later explain to a perplexed Bilbo that they were going on an entrancing adventure to kill one of the most powerful and savage dragons called ‘Smaug’ and retrieve their rightful ancestral treasure which the dragon had stolen. They request Bilbo to go along with them as a burglar.
Every step of their adventure is very intriguing and holds your attention until the very end. During the journey, you see them face many difficulties fighting trolls, ogres and even escape elf prison. They fight starvation and despite that continue on their treacherous journey. They also make many friends along the way like eagles and a creature named Beorn who is a half-man and a half bear.
J.R.R Tolkien has done an astounding job of keeping us engrossed especially during this COVID-19 lockdown when have we extra time on our hands. Learn how the hobbit can turn invisible by will and how he tried to bring peace between two races. It took me about 2 months to read the single book, but if you have time, you can easily finish it within a week due to its mind-boggling narration. This riveting book is neither too long to get bored nor too short to not get interesting. It is the perfect prequel for the lord of the rings and is the best boredom buster. You can’t miss it! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone especially to people who are planning to read the “Lord of the Rings” series.
